Montemonaco

the land of the Fairies, of the Mazzamurelli… and of children!

For some years now, thanks to the regeneration and enhancement of the most beautiful parks in the historic center, Monti Guarnieri and Villa Curi, our town has become a tourist destination for many families with children, but also a popular center for visits by school groups during the school year.

In the beautiful Parco Monti Guarnieri, in addition to the plain above where you can admire the entire magical side of the Sibillini, and the thick vegetation under which you can find refreshment in the summer, children can have fun in the various themed and play areas: the Bosco dei Mazzamurelli, the Guerrin Meschino Trail, the Sensory Trail, the Adventure Park and the Play Area.

The Bosco dei Mazzamurelli is very well known at a regional level, and not only, thanks to the numerous visitors who, appreciating the original idea, have been able to involve groups and tourist groups, families and school children by word of mouth. The Mazzamurelli are figures belonging to the folklore and legends of the Sibillini. Absolutely original gnomes equipped with clubs with which they enjoy knocking on the doors of humans. There are some all over Italy, but our gnomes have the privilege of living in the kingdom of the Sibyl and for this reason their stories are intertwined with those of the fairies and the Sorceress Sibilla.

While the Bosco dei Mazzamurelli expresses the magical aspect of our country, that of Guerrin Meschino, dedicated to the mythical figure of the wandering knight who managed to meet the Sorceress Sibilla, focuses on the cognitive aspects of our environment. Along the path, children are invited, through colorful illustrated panels, to answer various questions about our territory and its nature.

The Sensory Path entertains children while allowing them to experience very pleasant sensations while crossing barefoot on different types of terrain, ending in the Laghetto dei Sogni.

The Adventure Park, at the end of the Bosco dei Mazzamurelli, is equipped with Tibetan bridges and other adventurous paths suitable for children aged 11 and up, under the supervision of responsible adults.

In the Monti Guarnieri Park there are also several areas to stop for a picnic and rest in the shade of the trees. Visitors to Montemonaco this summer can also enjoy other routes, such as the one that goes from Villa Curi to Parco dei Torrioni, also in the historic center, designed to be accessible to everyone, including people in wheelchairs and parents with strollers. Here, younger children will find several games suitable for their age.

The Parco dei Torrioni is the most interesting historical site in Montemonaco. Recently redeveloped, it allows visitors to admire the remains of the castle walls thanks to the “Piazzale Don Ameche”, paved in an original way with cobblestones and illuminated at night.

All areas and paths of the historic center of Montemonaco are illuminated this year and this allows everyone to visit the town with pleasure even on warm summer evenings.
